Writing is an important part of running a business

Many companies have a dedicated team of writers and editors to help keep their advertising campaigns and websites looking top notch, and startups, freelancers, and smaller businesses often need help in these areas. Hiring a professional writer can be a bit expensive, and if you have the bones of your advertising campaign created, you just need someone to give a quick look to ensure it is publisher-ready.

Austin startup, Correctica, is a new tool that aims to help you do just this: proofread documents and websites quickly.

Why even worry about grammar, spelling, or sentence structure?

The most obvious answer is they make a poor first impression. Small errors can make a big impact on your customers, making you look unprofessional. Errors undermine the confidence visitors have in your content, and studies show that excessive errors increase bounce rate, discourage people from sharing your content, and discourage people from linking to your site. That’s no way to promote a business.

Spellcheckers and human editors are both good options, but they can both still miss errors.

Correctica states, “It’s tempting to think that only slapdash or minor sites can miss the kinds of errors we find, but in fact they can elude both spell checkers and proofreaders at some of the most prestigious sites in the world as well.”

Correctica even spotted errors on the White House website

Correctica then cites the Center for Disease Control and the President of the United States as examples of erroneous sites. Even sites utilizing spellcheckers, proofreaders, and editors can miss things like misspelled expressions, missing letters, misplaced spaces, and transposed letter. These are all thing that Correctica can catch. The program also catches capitalization, compound words, incorrect apostrophes, and other slip ups.

They offer a space for anyone to proof a document for free. Check your website, resume, blog, term paper, or anything else for free and see if Correctica catches any mistakes. While this is not a replacement for writers and editors, it is a good tool to use if you need to give something a quick once over and do not have the time or funds to utilize other options.
