Shocker: social media use on the rise

It is no secret that the Internet took the world by storm and completely revolutionized how we communicate with others. This proves to be true with each passing year as social media becomes more of a fixed presence in our lives.
With new apps, social media sites, and videos to watch and download, the Internet is constantly in use.

TechSpartan.co.uk complied an infographic (below) to look at the increase of Internet and social media usage between 2013 and 2014. And, as you may have guessed, every portion they reviewed had increased.

The components that they researched for the infographic were: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Vine, Google, YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and e-mails. They looked at these sites through per-minute usage, and found percentage increases in all 11 categories.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter nailing it

Facebook, in 2013, had 461,805 logins per minute which had increased 29.92 percent in 2014 to a solid 600,000 logins per minute.

In 2013, there were 38,000 photos uploaded per minute to Instagram. This rose to 67,000 in 2014 for an increase of 76.31 percent.

Every minute in 2013 saw an average of 347,000 tweets sent via Twitter. In 2014, tweets per minute increased to 433,000 which was a percentage hike of +24.78.

Of course we Googled a ton this year

For every minute in 2013, there was 103 hours worth of video content uploaded to YouTube. This more than doubled in 2014 with a total of 306 hours of video footage being uploaded to YouTube per minute, for an increase of 197 percent.

Music, shopping, and communication

The iTunes stores saw 37,000 app downloads per minute in 2013 and 50,200 downloads per minute in 2014 for an increase of 35.6 percent.

Let’s see what we can accomplish per minute in 2015!
