Hyperbole high on iPad release- it’s really kind of sad and funny

Let us pray…

ipadreviewmainAs per usual the Apple crowd is/was out in full force, some in line over 24 hours awaiting the latest release from Apple known as the iPad. Whatever bad you’ve read about iPad is irrelevant today as die hard Apple fans gather around the false idol for worship and praise offering alms of upwards of $500 bucks to feed the hungry in Cupertino and Wallstreet. Trust me, I’m not a hater, I love just about anything that Apple puts out just as much as the next guy, but quite frankly, wallowing in all of the seven deadly sins for a piece of technology is beyond all understanding as Apple takes on God for eyeballs and worship.

Engadget does the best job of cutting the crap, right after it points out the hype …

“The Apple iPad. The name is a killing word — more than a product — it’s a statement, an idea, and potentially a prime mover in the world of consumer electronics”

“Apple has been readying itself for what could be the most significant product launch in its history; the making (or breaking) of an entirely new class of computer for the company. The iPad is something in between its monumental iPhone and wildly successful MacBook line — an usurper to the netbook throne, and possibly a sign of things to come for the entire personal computer market… if Apple delivers on its promises. And those are some big promises; the company has been tossing around words like “magical” and “revolutionary””

Do I think this technology has amazing potential? Of course I do, but the problem is the potential result doesn’t exist yet as it’s all fabricated within the hopeful and prayerful minds of the die hard (blowhard) fan. Should you buy an iPad?Sure, why not. Everyone else is doing it.

Amen.

Happy Easter…

I actually heard someone on the news at the local apple store say: “If Steve Jobs points at it, I’ll buy it!” I’ve used mac products for years, but the feverish herd mentality around apple these days surprises even me.

It’s cultish, and I get that, it’s brand loyalty or something else.

I ordered an iPad but mine will not come until the end of the month because it will run on both wifi and AT&T and those units don’t ship for a few more weeks. I ordered it because I don’t have an iPhone. I can’t really use one and they can’t match my unlimited calling plan for $40 a month. I considered the itouch but my vision is not that great and it only runs on wifi. I played with my nieces and liked it. I have no use for an iPad. it is for my clients. Many of my buyers are 20 somethings and they use iPhones. I know nothing about the real estate apps. I want to be able to try them, learn how to use them and make recommendations. I want to show my sellers how listings look on the iPhone and what I do to make my marketing phone browser friendly.

I have two businesses now. The second is kind of an accident and has to do with photography. It has been suggested to me that I put my portfolio on the Ipad and carry it with me. Makes sense to me.

I currently carry a netbook and I love it. I think it will continue to be my mobile office and tool for writing blog posts.

On one level I can’t wait until my iPad comes, yet at the same time I already have buyers remorse. I just spent over $700 dollars on something that . . well who knows if it will even work or if I can use it. If it doesn’t work out my husband will have a new toy that I think he will really enjoy.

I feel ya on this one Teresa, and I think you’ll enjoy it, especially when traveling and in an airport, or in a coffee shop reading the latest. I’m holding out for either Googles, or the HP slate that’s about to come out so I can network them all together with our other machines. I’m also a netbook fan, their so much easier to lug than a laptop.

If I wanted an app player I’d get an ipod, but I need more than that to really justify it, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to run out and get an ipad for myself.

The iPad 3G will let me do what I already do on my iPhone and more. It’s the key piece of the puzzle in my quest to be almost completely paperless. Not to mention the 10 hour battery life. None of the upcoming slates can claim that. HP is around 5 hours. It’s also slow and kind of a crappy experience. Why wait for Google when you can have a great device now. Realtors have to be able to recognize great technology when it comes along. Most do not, which is fine with me.

Showing property – all the listings for that showing on the iPad, in order of showing with pictures. Also the ability to lookup listings, taxes etc, all on the fly. There isn’t very much a client can ask that I can’t get an answer for on the spot. I’ll even be able to write a contract and get it signed.

Listing presentations is another great use for the iPad. I could go on and on. I’ll be able to conduct almost all of my business from my iPad. The business side of this device will be amazing. A California hospital is buying 100 of them for their doctors and staff. They key is having a device that isn’t burdened and weighed down by a bloated operating system. I have a very clear path for how I will use my iPad.

And as for printing form an iPad,-that’s so very last century.

        Key apps to use:
        Logmein Ignition
        Dropbox
        Daylite Touch
        MyFax
        Zosh
        Google Voice
        Docusign
        GoodReader
        Pages
        Skype
        ZipForm
        Loan Calc
        RECalc
