Trulia home value estimates program goes national

Trulia launches “Trulia Estimates” across the nation, asks consumers to claim their off-market homes and update information on their homes for a more accurate home value estimate through their algorithm.

Trulia Estimates program exits open beta

Last fall, Trulia.com launched “Trulia Estimates” into open beta after testing in San Francisco, saying consumer demand for home value estimates drove the development of the project. After consumer and real estate professional feedback, Trulia is announcing today that the program is now available nationally for over 50 million off-market homes in nearly 500 counties.

The company says the product is intended to aide consumers in understanding market trends and that they’ve “received tons of positive feedback about how this provides a useful starting point for understanding home prices and informs decisions about buying, selling, refinancing, and renovating.”

Consumers can claim a property, update the home’s public profile for accuracy and completion and generate a “Trulia Estimate,” or a modified AVM (automated valuation model) price.

Updating property facts and data

Trulia Estimates is available from the landing page, prominently displayed near the top with a “new” tag next to it, and the company is promoting the service, telling homeowners they should update public facts about their property, add more home features and correct any inaccurate or outdated info so the Estimate is most accurate. Alterations to the estimate are updated live.

Trulia Estimates pulls only from public record data rather than a third party source and the site allows homeowners to claim their home and update features which ultimately will have an impact on the Trulia Estimate for that address in real time, Trulia told AGBeat.

The company notes to consumers, “Keep in mind that while Trulia Estimates are a great starting point for consumers, these estimates do not replace the valuable expertise and local market knowledge provided by real estate professionals. On each page, you have the option to contact a real estate agent to get a professional estimate based on local comps, active listings, price trends and other factors. Connect with a real estate pro to get the real inside scoop on your home and local area.”
