Creative leadership
Most business professionals would consider themselves creative whether or not they are in web development or user experience (UX) design, and many struggle with leading teams of people that have a wide range of responsibilities and personalities. Although Sarah B. Nelson’s speech is specifically focused on managing a team of web creatives, we believe it to be pertinent in any team setting.
Nelson discusses methods of vision development and team alignment as well as bottom-up empowerment and top-down intervention. Her practical tips can get any leader on their way to avoiding the pitfalls of miscommunication and help leaders of any sized team inspire their team on a business and personal level.
What we found most intriguing is that Nelson subscribes more to the Tina Fey leadership mentality over a Jack Welch mentality and while both have merit, she finds inspiring people that are creative goes much further in business. We would argue that most people have creativity inside them, even if they’re not designing a website, and harnessing some of that creativity in a constructive way can help any team.
