Show your availability with this USB light indicator on your desk

Nothing distracts from a great, productive flow like unnecessary interruptions. Luxafor uses a USB lit flag to display your availability to coworkers.

To be productive, or not to be productive

You’re working hard, concentrating on whatever is on your computer screen. Productivity is flowing right along. Then the record scratches when that obnoxious but lovable coworker comes over to ask you about the game last night or ask about something they’re working on. They walk off, you look at your computer screen and all focus has been lost.

Maybe you’ve been that person who unknowingly interrupts someone. It can be a challenge to know when it’s an appropriate time to ask a quick question at work without bothering your colleagues. There’s a cool new device called Luxafor that could help solve this problem. Luxafor is a USB light indicator you attach to the top of your computer that shows your availability to your coworkers.

Customization is key here

You can use manual mode and set it yourself if you’re too busy to talk or if instant messaging is preferable. You can connect it to one of the many productivity apps Luxafor supports like OfficeTime or Desktime. It can be set to show if you’re using certain programs that suggest you are available or busy.

There’s a convenient notification mode that will flash when you get a new email, reminder, or something important that needs your attention. The product easily attaches to your computer with magnets so it can be moved around if you change desks or computers.

Wired or Bluetooth, it’s all awesome

The product is being rolled out by GreyNut, a company wanting to make Luxafor available in offices globally. The project is currently in the Kickstarter phase, and they’re hoping to raise funds and have the device available for purchase in July of this year. The wired version can be pre-ordered for $21, and a Bluetooth version will be available for $52.

There are some obvious cons to debate here. Will your boss see your green light when your computer is in a resting phase as a sign that you’re not working? Will Luxafor become like the headphones, earbuds, and status indicators already on current communications applications that nobody really pays attention to? There have also been similar products that have come before the Luxafor but founders tested the device in offices and are confident this product works better.

The best do not disturb option, ever

Whether you’re in a cubical farm, an open office, or freelancing at home, sometimes there are moments when you simply do not want to be disturbed and a sticky note or your middle finger ain’t cutting it. This handy device could help you communicate your availability in a much smoother manner and let you get your work done without unnecessary interruptions.
