Pluto Mail is about to save us all a ton of embarrassment
We’ve all been there; you send an email in haste that you later regret. At times, the instant delivery of email messages can be dangerous. For example, if you misspell your new client’s name, it could terminate negotiations; an angry message sent to your boss, could result in your dismissal, but one platform has a new way to help. Pluto Mail has the an answer for your email worries.
Pluto Mail is a free email service that puts you in control of your sent emails. Think of it like the Snapchat for emails. Pluto allows users to unsend emails, as well, as edit and monitor them. It isn’t an email provider per se, you will need to authenticate your preferred email address in order to sign up, but once you’ve signed up, you can use the Pluto interface, or your own existing mail client.
When you’re up and running you set email messages to automatically expire after a specified time. You can select any time you like from a few minutes to a few days. After this time, the recipient will no longer be able to read your message. Pluto displays message content as images, making it difficult to copy text to save elsewhere; of course you can take a screenshot of the image and save it, but most people are not going to go to such lengths for every single email. Once the specified time has elapsed, the Pluto server kills the image, but will not remove the subject line. If your recipient tries to open an expired email, they will see a “this message has expired” prompt.
So how long do I have to unsend or edit?
Up until the recipient opens the message, you can unsend and/or edit any message. This applies to both the message and any attachments you may have sent. This allows you to edit any mistakes, change the content of the message entirely, or completely unsend the message, as if it was never sent at all. You can also see when the recipient opened your message.
While Pluto Mail isn’t a catch-all for every email mistake, it certainly has the potential to save you from making some embarrassing mistakes. This might be especially useful for small businesses and freelancers who tend to handle their own customer service issues; Pluto Mail would allow you to save yourself from embarrassing mistakes that can be made when you’re in a hurry to do too many things at once. It’s definitely a tool to keep in mind.
