Node: the electrical outlet of the future?

While many of us obsess over the latest smartphones, apps, and tablets, the less glamorous, hidden side of technology is being considered by innovators.

The outlet of the future?

One of the biggest annoyances of being a device user is needing to plug in your iPhone, your tablet, your laptop, your lamp, etc. and yes, we all know that power strips exist and are wonderful, but they are also large, an eyesore, and require you to carry something extra when going to conferences, traveling, or simply going between your office and your home. Additionally, power strips are easy to trip on and can be troublesome with children around.

The Node 12050 Electric Outlet pictured above could be the electrical outlet of the future – multiple plugs simply slide in where they fit. Genius. Its design is minimal, and it might be a little tougher to stick a tiny finger into the slots than outlets of today.

According to Gadget Review, “Currently the Node is in the conceptual phase, though the designer, Metaphys, does sell actual products. So keep an eye out, because if it was up to us, these would’ve gone on sale at Home Depot yesterday.”

There are minor annoyances in this world that often go overlooked, but with innovators focusing on what ails us, the future is looking more streamlined and more simple.

They might look good and the company might make a fortune selling them. But they will go broke from lawsuits from fires and kids getting electrocuted and dying. No ground and not tamper resistant. .
