Gumroad for selling directly to your audience
Are you a writer? An artist? A musician? Do you have digital products for sale but are tired of the complicated setup and middle man who takes a hefty cut? Gumroad has launched and is funded to the tune of $8.1 million to solve the complicated problem of selling content directly to the audience you already have.
Most creatives already own their distribution channel – in other words, their sales will be through their social media channels, or their own blog or website, so paying a third party is a waste of money for some people. Additionally, creatives are truly in the business to create, not to sell, but the later is critical to the former, so Gumroad handles the hosting, payment, and content delivery for creatives.
Writers, designers, game developers, musicians, artists, and filmmakers use Gumroad to earn money off of their creative efforts, but it’s more than that – any business can sell some of their existing assets. Do you have ebooks or white papers compiled? Check out what you have stored away that you’re not using and consider whether or not it is a value to your audience.
Gumroad even manages coupons for you
Already being sold on Gumroad is unreleased music, app invites, source code, blog posts, poetry, ebooks, photography, and more.
But sometimes creatives need an extra sales push, so this month, Gumroad announced “Offers,” which allows you to give a discount to buyers.
The company explains on their blog, “with Offers, you can give a discount to buyers in one of two ways; either sending them to a unique url, or giving them a code to input on the normal purchase form. The amount that you set for the offer code discount will be deducted from the price upon entering a valid code.
