Trulia launches free Android app and iPad app

Trulia since 2008

Trulia released their iPhone app in 2008, nearly 1,000 days later, the iTunes store has another Trulia app, this time for the iPad. Additionally, the Android Market now features a Trulia app.

According to Trulia, mobile use accounts for 12% of their overall traffic and they have an entire team dedicated to mobile development.

Continuing his reinvigorated competitive tone, Trulia CEO and co-founder said, “We believe the real estate apps currently available on the market today lack both the vision and the utility that home buyers, sellers and renters crave.”

The Trulia iPad app

The Trulia iPad app offers heat maps to compare listing and sold prices as well as “Neighborhood Insights” which offers boundaries, neighborhood amenities, nearby retail and restaurant ratings.

The iPad app already has one user review, “Ok app, but very slow. I am have problems getting the app to work. It is really slow, especially when I turn on the overlays on the map,” says dbax. Blogger Brian Boero said, “This app, for all its strengths, is neither nice to look at or fun to use. The dark, almost dreary, interface weighed on me. Somehow “Trulia green,” which suggests energy and openness on their website, got replaced with a tone somewhere between avocado and algae. And the only time the app, and the brand, spoke to me directly in human voice was to ask me for a review. That’s a missed opportunity.”

The Trulia Android app

The Trulia Android app offers “One-touch Open House Calendaring” allowing users to add an open house to their Android calendar of choice, offers voice search to speed up the process (and given our experience with the Android voice technology Trulia has used for this feature, it is surprisingly accurate), and a native QR code reader to appeal to the rise of Realtors using them on their signs.

Perhaps because the Android platform is more open source, this application stands out and already has 11 reviews, almost every single one being positive and sound similar to GLW’s comment, “Great app for finding real estate. Best one that I’ve tried.”

Time will tell

As consumers use their preferred apps to search for real estate, the true winners will emerge based on traffic and conversion, so time will be the true test of each platform.
