Chime Chrome extension is a major time saver

Chime is an extremely simple free app exclusively for the Google Chrome browser that grabs all of your social network notifications and pulls them into one single panel, alerting you right from within your browser, color coded so that you can immediately see where the update is from.

The company says there is no server-side code, which means that all of your data stays on your computer where it is secure, and the biggest benefit is that you save time not only having to sign in to every social network again, but not having to visit each social network independently and keeping endless tabs open to manage your social presence.

Currently, the app supports notifications from:

  1. Gmail
  2. Facebook
  3. Twitter
  4. LinkedIn
  5. Google+
  6. Reddit
  7. Quora
  8. Flickr
  9. Foursquare
  10. GitHub
  11. Stack Overflow

While several of the options are for coders, revealing that the tool is designed to attract tech savvy users, even the simplest user with scant tech awareness can download the app to their Google Chrome browser, and it automatically recognizes which social networks you are signed into, like so:

Users can click any service to simply log in and begin pulling in social networking updates through Chime which not only offers an alert at the top right of the browser with a count of how many unread notifications a user has, but when a new update rolls in, an optional pop up appears at the bottom right of the browser.

Any updates that are aggregated by Chime can simply be clicked to take the user directly to that update in order to respond or simply read more, and most importantly, when users click on the Chime icon in the top right of their browser, there is a “Do Not Disturb” option and full settings, giving users full control of their Chime experience.

I turned my email notification off years ago. This wouldn’t last. It would be distracting and annoying.
