Facebook Pages get Timeline features
Businesses using Facebook Pages were notified this week of big changes coming to Facebook Pages, with guides all over the landing page when a Page administrator logs into the Facebook Page. The biggest update to pages is the rollout of Timeline for Pages, just like the social media giant did for personal profiles.
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the changes with supporters hailing the ability to brand more effectively, while critics lament the Timeline aesthetics and function regardless of whether it is on a business or personal account.
Well known Facebook expert, Brian Carter, author of “Facebook Marketing” and “The Like Economy” opined that the new features are irrelevant, but regardless of relevancy, brands should still exert the effort of adding a cover photo to their page and update their presence to bring it to modernity.
Not too late: many brands have not yet updated their Pages
In researching for this story, it was not surprising that many brands had not taken the initiative to setup their Page yet, but it was surprising how many tech brands had not, and even more surprising how many brands that espouse the value of social media (and teach others how to use the tools) had not yet taken advantage of the new look that will inevitably be mandatory.
Whether you have added a cover photo or not to your Facebook Pages, we have located 40 brands using cover photos to help inspire you and get your creative juices flowing. Some of these are more clever than others, and most are consistent with their brand. Business use is not quite on par yet with the creativity we have spotted in personal profile Timeline covers, but we anticipate that as businesses understand the cover photo is just a giant billboard, we will see more than pictures and will see more advertising type images with words and actionables.
