The Real Thing- Real Estate Licensing Clarity

Fred Glick | 2009/12/07  | 11 Comments

REALTOR The Real Thing Real Estate Licensing ClarityJust a note to all of you real estate people that belong to the National of REALTORS®.

You are NOT licensed realtors, reeltors or real-a-tors.  The state you are in and NAR do not license you as a REALTOR®.

You are either a licensed real estate salesperson, broker or associate broker in the state that gave you the ability to transact real property brokerage transactions.

You will look so much smarter and be in compliance by looking at your license and copying exactly what it says on there to your websites, cards, email signatures, etc.

  1. Benn Rosales says:

@123fredglick ha I love that you got that real-a-tor thing in there too. I hear even seasoned agents dropping that bomb all the time.

  2. Fred Glick says:

    Thanks, Benn.

It drives me a little nuts, especially the 3 syllables ones!

  3. Tim McDonald says:

    Fred,
I am a Realtor, but on my card, since I am a licensed broker (and own my own company) I have Broker/Owner. I still state that I am a Realtor as well. My IL state license does not have broker/owner on it, but I don’t feel like I misrepresent myself. IL only (currently) has designations of salesperson, leasing agent and broker. No associate broker. Don’t take me the wrong way, I understand what you are saying, but it’s not just as simple as copying what’s on your license for everyone.

  4. Fred Romano says:

Tim I think you are missing Fred’s point. Many agents call themselves “Licensed Realtor” when in fact there is no licensing to be a “Realtor. They should be calling themselves “Licensed Salesperson” or maybe “Licensed Real Estate Salesperson” or “Licensed Broker”.

  5. Tim McDonald says:

    Fred,
I get his point and agree with it, but just saying to copy what’s on your license isn’t always applicable.
