AOL Instant Messenger Integrates Into Facebook
Wait, AIM’s not dead?
In an effort to get on the “we connect to all of the social networks TOO” bandwagon, AOL (which I am not even kidding when I say I thought no one used anymore) has a new beta product that links Facebook and AIM. It works on Mac or Windows and you can use Facebook chat and update your Facebook status while signed into AIM.
We’ve talked before about how similar all of the social networks are becoming with similar premises and rather than innovate their offerings, many of them are simply saying “you can now update [insert other social networks here] from OUR social network” in an attempt to garner attention and supposedly save time for users rather than people having to update all of their networks.
Instead of focusing on the fact that AIM still somehow exists (seriously, I’m baffled), what do you think of the ability to integrate Facebook into the AOL experience? Will this help your old school clients that haven’t quite expanded beyond AOL be ushered into the Web 2.0 era, or is this a “me too” move that has a minimal impact?
