Trulia’s growth path

Recently named in the 60 Genius Brands to watch list, real estate search site, Trulia.com has compiled data regarding their growth since their launch in 2006 and presented it graphically, showing strength particularly in Florida and California.

Below, each white dot represents a zip code where a house for sale was viewed by a web visitor on Trulia, with large cities having higher volumes of search which Trulia says “makes sense since there are a lot more homes to buy in bigger metro areas” and we would add that it is expected as the populations are more dense.

Additionally, Trulia says that “rather than just illustrating each property view as a single dot that gets lit up when a home gets checked out in a zip code, we’re adding another layer of detail – popularity,” with each green spike below representing a zip code where a house for sale was viewed with the tallest spikes being the most popular. The spikes can be changed by moving the slider to view different points in time and how areas of popularity changed as the site grew (click the image below to launch the interactive graphic):

The company outlines the most popular zip codes, noting that 90210 is the most popular zip code, possibly because “a lot of fans looking at LA for their next move who couldn’t resist checking out what Beverly Hills has to offer,” as it was made popular by Aaron Spelling’s continuing television teen drama. Florida’s east and west coasts were more popular than the north or south of the state while the only city in the Midwest to make the top 20 was Chicago.
