Businesses aren’t built on wishes alone

There are many times when we have an idea that we want to build upon and invest in, but don’t have the money to do so. Businesses aren’t built on hopes and wishes alone – it takes cash to obtain tax IDs, write up business plans and pay for things like overhead costs and inventory or training before you can even open your doors and begin bringing in revenue.

So when an opportunity like Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp’s Growing Chicago $10K Pitch Contest comes along, business owners should apply in droves. The contest is open to permanent residents of Illinois who have plans of starting a business in the United States. In order to apply, those interested must fill out an entry form and produce a 1-3 minute video detailing what they would accomplish if they had access to $10,000 of capital for their existing or proposed business.

In addition to the $10,000, winners get free entry to the Access to Capital Chicago event, as well as a D&B Credibility Corp business starter kit. The submission deadline is May 17th.

Access to Capital event, May 22nd

If you don’t want to enter, you can view entrant videos and vote for the business you think should win the grand prize. Tickets are also on sale for the Access to Capital event on May 22nd, during which business owners can learn about various funding options, meet with lending officers for one-on-one consultations and access community resources that specialize in assisting the small business community in Chicago.

There will also be panel discussions on several trends in the venture capital industry, such as crowdfunding and how to successfully launch and operate a startup; these will be beneficial for new business owners who aren’t sure of if they should search for traditional funding versus going the alternative route, or who need guidance in setting out on a new business venture. So if you have the time to submit a video to win the grand prize, or just want to stop by to hear from industry experts, the Capital event is sure to be a valuable experience.
