Unreasonable Institute: business immersion

If you’re really set on accomplishing a goal or trying something new, one of the best ways to do that is through immersion. You eat, sleep and breathe this new interest and dedicate substantial amounts of time to learning and excelling in this thing that you’re passionate about. But how many of us really get to do that? There’s this thing called life that gets in the way every now and then, and it can be difficult, even unreasonable, to dedicate so much of yourself to this one thing.

Luckily, the folks at the Unreasonable Institute understand the trepidation that entrepreneurs face when trying to launch a new business or increase revenue, and continue to push them anyways.

For six weeks, 10-30 entrepreneurs are chosen to be “Unreasonable Fellows” and live under one roof in Boulder, Colorado. While there, they meet with more than 100 angel investors and 50 mentors that have successfully accomplished similar undertakings that those in the program are trying to do themselves.

It requires a great amount of commitment to step away from friends and family for that length of time, but this immersion encourages entrepreneurs to give it all that they have for six weeks in the hopes that it will radically transform their business.

More than an incubator or accelerator

We’ve covered a few incubator and accelerator programs in recent months, and many thrust entrepreneurs together in common work spaces for an extended period of time, but this is the first that I’ve seen that highlights that program participants will not only work together, but live together as well.

This can be daunting for some, because in a sense, you always have to be “on,” but the process can be beneficial in that you’re in contact around the clock with people who know what you’re going through and can share in the challenges and successes that take place during those six weeks. The program costs $10,000 for one entrepreneur, and $12,000 for a team. The money can be raised through the program’s “Unreasonable Marketplace” which is its crowdfunding platform for selected fellows.

Even though it may appear unreasonable at first glance, entrepreneurs have to do things a little differently in order to disrupt the marketplace and make a name for themselves. The Unreasonable Institute is a whirlwind experience that in the end, gives entrepreneurs the guidance they need to make leaps and bounds in their business.
