Sometimes Getting the Death Flu (aka allergies) is a Good Thing

After all of the rains we’ve had here in Central Texas, the mold is sure to follow. With an increase in the mold and elm counts come the fall allergy alerts. This has led to my one week hiatus- being sick is certainly no fun. However, it did give me a lot of time to be a consumer in need.

• Waiting for the part of the weather on the weather channel or local news to give you the spore count and an allergy forecast,
• Needing information on how to combat allergy issues w/o taking tons of medication,
• What types of medication would have the least impact on me but give me the same results if medication would be needed at all.

The list of informational needs went on and on. But as I sat helplessly by waiting for the stupid allergy forecast, I realized that this is a great reminder of the need & possibly frustration our home shoppers have when wanting information (any information).

My intent on avoiding the Dr. comes out of sheer know-it-all. I know what’s wrong, and I can treat myself. But what I must remember as a consumer is to not expect the doctors to simply hand over their bag of tricks, treatments, or remedies simply because I’m stubborn. I could very easily attack the medical profession by saying there are plenty of common illnesses I can treat on my own, therefore they should provide free or inexpensive services, but we all accept that will never happen.

I’m still sick. I will probably be sicker longer, suffer longer because I am stubborn. I wonder which is worse though- a 30 year mortgage hangover or an extra week in bed with the death flu?
