Moving more than the stapler

So, I decided to change brokerages. It wasn’t nearly as dramatic as some of the stories I have heard. In fact, it really wasn’t dramatic at all.  I made a decision, those involved respected it, and everybody else seems really happy for me.

Now, over the weekend, I am going to go pack up my office and turn in my key. While that is a fairly large task, it is not nearly as daunting as updating my office space online. Everything has to be updated to the new logo and new office address. Thank goodness I was smart enough to own my own website and email address. That change would have been…well, tough. Just redesigning the layout is taking some time.

I will be honest, while it would not have changed my decision to move, I will say that had I considered the undertaking of updating my entire online life, I would have had one more cup of coffee during the conversation.

When was the last time you did a full check of you information? Is the email, phone number, address, picture still reflective of who you are?

Have you made this change before?  Tips would be great. The only two that jump out at me are going through my email folder that holds the sign in emails and then googling myself and checking what I find.

Sounds like a weekend…

  1. Would Google Desktop help streamline your search? It would pick up any references in files, too.

  2. I’m entering day two of the great brokerage change. It only was dramatic because I’m a drama queen or so my wife says. :-)

Websites are easy … what is fun is trying to remember all the little social network places where you may have posted a profile. That’s what’s the killer.

Good luck at your new place!

The only tip I have for you is never look back…

  4. Mariana says:

Jonathan – You and my husband (TODQ – The Other Drama Queen) would get along famously. Do you ALSO have more shoes than your wife?

  5. April says:

Dru – I have never used Google Desktop and don’t know much about it…sounds like I should check it out

Jonathan – I am considering our joint move as an omen of good! Not big on omens – but this one I am holding on to :)

Benn – yeah – I am not testing that whole pillar of salt thing.

Mariana – no answer to the shoe question? Hmmm….
