Dorothy Was Too

I’m an eternal optimist – an optimist-optimist, I think it’s called in physco babble.  I’ve been called Pollyanna, which I know isn’t a compliment.  But I know everything’s going to be all right.  How do I know this?  Because it always is.  Yes, things suck.  I’m not standing in my gold plated Donald Trump-esc living room saying,  “Oh, you silly little people.”

Think Boob

But I’ve been through a lot worse – and I mean a lot worse.  And so have you.  We all have.  My friend Kacy and I laugh about whose life is worse.  I realize we both have a totally sick sense of humor, but it’s pretty dang funny.  We each must think our lives really aren’t that bad.  Hmm.

I think her life is in utter and complete turmoil.  She thinks mine is.  Wait a minute.  Isn’t the grass always greener on the other side?  There’s something wrong with this story…

Blah Blah Blah

At any rate, you know the statistics, the history of real estate and the stock market.  It’ll all come back.  Those fence-sitters who are waiting for the market to bottom will all start buying after the market starts to rise.  They always do.

What About The Meantime?

Eat ice cream, work harder or get a job.  Or eat ice cream, work harder and get a job.  In other words, make the best of it.  You can’t change it.  I can’t compete against CNN and neither can you.  Most people have short-term memories.

I don’t understand why they can’t remember when interest rates were 18% – that today’s rates are low.  I can’t figure out how they can know the first house their parents bought is worth a gazzilion dollars more than they paid for it but they still believe this is the end of it all.

I don’t understand why they don’t understand.  But it doesn’t matter.  Let’s get on with the business – the business of real estate.  My mint chip is melting.

I bow down to your attitude my friend – and when all else fails…just open your eyes, look around and know “IT’S ALL GOOD!”

  2. Jim Whatley says:

you know you have hit bottom when the guy you think is worst off than you, is thinking at least he is better of than you. Good thing you have hit bottom and no where to go but up.

  3. Ken Brand says:

Amen. You can tune a piano, but you can’t Tuna Fish. Huh? Exactly.
    :-)

  4. Vicki Moore says:

What’s that saying? Control the things you can…and forget the rest? Or something like that. It’s all perspective. Every time I turn on the faucet, water comes out. Sometimes it’s just that simple. Sometimes I make it so complicated I couldn’t figure it out with a map. Either way I have an amazing life – no matter what the market is doing. If you’re reading this, then you do too.

  5. Geoff Beach says:

Great post about the need to keep pressing on, no matter what the circumstance. I find optimism is the pinnacle to success. If you don’t believe you’ll succeed, you won’t!

  6. Steve Simon says:

I’m not trying to make you all upset, but if you really want some perspective: the next time you’re feeling down about things gather up some good books you have read, and or a few DVD’s you’ve seen and drive down to your nearest Hospice. Drop off the items at the desk (or their librairy area) and look around a little bit. Perhaps talk with a few of the many volunteer helpers. You will not feel that your life is bad. “Every day is a gift…”
Read the “Cold Motorcycle” post on my site’s blog for a full story:)

  7. CWaterhouse says:

Well, Pollyanna, you’re absolutely right. Things aren’t that bad, but seriously, they could be.

My Mom use to tell me (when I was in trouble for forgetting to do something) “You think it’s bad now – just wait till you get home!”

That’s the way I feel about today’s economy. In my optimistic attitude (or maybe I’m just too naive) – life is great & things are wonderful … until further notice.

  8. Vicki Moore says:

Geoff – Sometimes we have to dig deep to get at that optimism, but it’s worth every shovel full.

Steve – We’re both saying the same thing. Of course it’s upsetting; life is upsetting sometimes. It’s important to get out of ourselves and look around. Doing that can be difficult, but it’s crucial.

    C – One day at a time. That’s all we’ve got anyway.

  9. “You know, I have never had a bad serving of ice cream.

  10. A couple of Board members in my community used to make fun of me and my rose-colored glasses. Then after awhile they noticed that things started matching my rosy vision, and they now say ‘maybe there is something to this positive attitude thing.’ There totally is!

  11. Vicki Moore says:

Hey Thomas! I agree. I have my favorite, but in a pinch, any one will do.

Lisa – Those people are emotional vampires. Back away slowly…keeping your eyes on them at all times.

  12. Paula Henry says:

Vickie – I love your optimism! When my children were growing up we had a plaque in our home with Henry Ford’s famous saying, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right”. The power of the mind to overcome or be overcome is within our control.
