hp 3 The Zebra has Class

 What A Surprise!

As I am getting ready to go to sleep I was lured by the Siren call of my computer, which was making Zebra noises from within Google Reader.

I look and see is a post on NARWisdom about Daniel Rothamel   entitled “The Zebra Teaches History On Realtor Mag Blog” which links to “Shouldn’t We All know more about REALTOR History” written for Realtor Magazine’s Blog Speaking of Real Estate. Now I am really excited – I like history and I like Daniel – AND I already read the book he was talking about – it has lots of pictures -and is really an incredibly interesting and rather honest recounting of what the REALTOR organization has done over the years.

If You Don’t Read

I was torn about adding the following link, to one of the two Videos about the History of the Organization (you can see the other part of the video on the new page that opens up there) because I reallywant everyone to read Daniel’s take on the History of the Organization, and maybe even get motivated to buy the book, or at least borrow a copy somewhere and read it.  But I can’t help sharing the video- As I said earlier, I really like history, and the fact that THE Zebra, a Young technologically astute REALTOR is sharing his experience discovering that there is a lot of interesting back story to the organization is thrilling! (Geeze, I really need to get a life -)

 Credit Where Due

Kudos to the Zebra, to NarWisdom for writing the post I caught, and Daniel , if you have the time and are planning to attend the May meetings in Washington an invitation for the lunch or drink of your choice – or if not there, when I get to meet you in person some time in the future – In the mean time a tip of my virtual hat as I raise my virtual drink to toast you and your new history class – Gotta Go now – I’m out of Virtual Hands!

  1. Bill,

    I am humbled, thank you.

I am still making up my mind about Mid-Year, but I am leaning towards going. An invitation to drinks with you might just push me over. :-)

I’m kinda thinking Bill’s invitation for drinks is open to anyone reading this… :)

I think Daniel’s series is going to be great. And in my opinion, it’s always good when the NAR lets someone from “outside” the hallowed halls contribute. (which they are doing more and more often).

Glad to see you’re reading NARWisdom Bill! Thanks for the plug!

Daniel – Drinks is a no brainer – and there are probably some of those little pretzels involved – Ice Cream is always a back up plan :-)

    Jay – You’re right – I am easy! Are you in? :-)

  4. Bill, thanks for your comments about Daniel Rothamel’s blog posts on the history of NAR. I share his (and your) enthusiasm for history, and — having lived with the content for 2-1/2 years before the book’s publication — I’m really enjoying Daniel’s observations.

Daniel, I hope you will attend the Midyear meetings, because that’s a great place to get a sense of what it means to be a REALTOR (i.e., a member of NAR). Last week, Glenn Roberts from InmanNews interviewed me about the centennial – and one of the questions he asked me was when NAR became such a political organization. I mentioned that in the 1970s, the association became a political powerhouse when the broker members decided to welcome salespeople as members. The membership grew by about 400,000 in one year. But the truth is that NAR has always been a political organization. Its fundamental mission, like that of any association, is to help its members achieve success, and that requires members who are committed to fighting in Congress for laws and regulations that are favorable to real estate. The midyear meetings are a great place to see that effort in action!

If you are coming to the Midyear Meetings, consider attending the Centennial Gala – and I hope we have a chance to meet there. (I’ll be selling centennial books!)

Editor in Chief, REALTOR magazine (and editor of the NAR centennial book)

Stacey – Au Contraire – Thank You
    I own the book,
    I love the book
    I live the book! :-)
