Yes, phoenix is quite lucky in that we can physically reach out to to our large population of bloggers (something I plan to do more of). For those not in a similar area, the above ways are even more important to help them get attention to tbeir work and let them know theyr contributions are noticed.
@tboard - not too sure I understand your question completely but, hellz yeah :) anyone who's making some kind of contribution (whether renet or lolcat) would love the extra traffic, expoaure, and appreciation any of the above methods provide.

I’m traveling far from my pc but am typing this fro my blackberry because I want to say THANK YOU for adding to the conversation with your great comments.

Yes, phoenix is quite lucky in that we can physically reach out to to our large population of bloggers (something I plan to do more of). Every thing you mentioned in this post can be done with local bloggers, neighbors and friends who live in my market area. Could there be benefits to reaching outside of the re- net?

The re net has been good to me but I have a love hate relationship with it. Sometimes the transparency of being a part of REnet takes an additional dose of courage. Commenting on blogs, reaching out to others via Skype or IM, transports you from your comfortable existence "in the box" to outting yourself.
I think all of us in Arizona are very fortunate to be geographically close to each other. Because of our connections within the social media realm, we have taken it several steps further to include regular tweet-ups (that surprisingly, crosses industries), new found friendships and yes, some can even claim successful business transactions.
At this point, my goal is to help those around me to be successful in their journey. If, in the meantime, we become friends ... then I am blessed.

Nice post, Mark. "How do you show others appreciation for their contributions?"
One of my favorite ways, in addition to your list, would be.
YEO as in Jeff Turner's You Engaging Others. That includes IRL yes, actually taking time to meet with some of the great people from the RE.net "in real life." This is a great community! Fortunately, we have several opportunities during the year to meet our friends in other states. Here in AZ, I think we do a pretty good job of making opportunities via tweet ups etc.

Mark, as usual, you make some great points…<br
